After living in Ebrach, Germany, for many years, we made the decision in 1999 to come to McLean County, where we purchased our small farm. Our dream had always been to be involved with farming and although we hadn't originally thought about grapes, that's exactly where our interests led us.
In 2003, we planted the first vines on three acres and have been adding new ones ever since. Eleven
and a half acres are currently planted with Seyval Blanc, Frontenac, Foch, Traminette, Cayuga White, Steuben, Chardonel, St. Croix, Marquette and Johannisberg Riesling grapes.
In 2010, we purchased the neighboring property which included a log home that has been remodeled into our winery and tasting room. The construction of the pond followed and
on Memorial Day 2011 we opened the tasting room to the public.
Already this year (2013) we presented our wines at the
Between-the-Canyons Craft Beer and Wine tasting event in Starved Rock,
the East Peoria Farmers Market, the Manito Wine, Art and Balloon Festival,
as well as the Illinois Grape Growers and Vinters Association (IGGVA)
annual conference. At the IGGVA conference five of our wines
(Abendrot, 2012 Weise Eiche, Sonnenschein, Feierabend and Heimat) were
selected to represent Illinois at the ITB Convention in Berlin which
is the worlds largest travel fair.
In 2013 our Bernese Red won a Silver Medal at the Illinois State Fair Wine Competition!
Come visit us at the winery! We welcome guests to share our dream.
